What do all supermodels have in common? Amazing hair, that’s what! We once heard a woman say, “You can have no makeup on, sweats and worn out sneakers, but if your hair looks good, so do you.” Wise words to live by, right?
Whether it’s for Valentines Day, Galentine’s Day, or a night out, bombshell waves are always in demand. Here’s some advice for getting supermodel hair. The first thing to note is that hair comes in all patterns and textures, but it may be easier to get waves without the use of heat. Overnight curls using a headband, rollers or any form of twists reduces damage to the hair and makes our morning get-ready routine a lot simpler.
To start, comb and part the hair in the desired area. Start with a fabric headband that wraps around the head entirely, positioning as normal (near the hairline, behind the ears).
Beginning in the front near the part, take a small section of hair and twist once away from the face. Lift the hair up and tuck it under the headband, pulling through and back down to the front. Grab the next section of hair, including the first section and give it all a single twist away from the face, and pull through the headband again. Repeat these steps on one side until you reach the center of your head in the back, then start over again in the front on the other side.
Tip: If your hair is really long, the headband method might be tedious for you. Instead, try pulling the hair into a loose high ponytail and twisting the hair around a sock bun. Here’s the link to a tutorial.
We recommend trying this method before bed, that way sleeping in the headband locks in the curl. It may be helpful to sleep in a silk bonnet or scarf to make sure the hair is smooth and shiny in the morning. If you’re short on time, simply blow dry the hair on warm to hot heat for 5 minutes. Blast with cool air for 2 minutes and the curls will be set.
Tip: If you have very straight and coarse hair, a bit of heat will go a long way to help seal in this style.
In the morning, or once you’re ready to remove the headband, simply unwind the hair from the band in the reverse order that it was twisted. The hair should be really springy and coiled. Apply a bit of argan or coconut oil for shine and use your fingers or a wide tooth comb to unwind the hair to the desired looseness.
Using these heatless methods means every morning we go from a cute duckling into a beautiful swan. Of course, some heat styling tools may be used to touch up, but this no fuss method is a great way to achieve the curls of your dreams … every day.
