We don’t know what it is about the changing of seasons, but something about it makes us want to change up our hairstyles (regularly). The world of hair can be a bit overwhelming with so many options including colors, cuts, extensions and textures. We decided to narrow down our favorite “food inspired” hair trends for spring and summer 2017 to help inspire us all to make some solid hair moves.
Smoke It Out
We are falling back in love with natural hair shades, but this time with a tonal twist. One way of changing up our natural look is by toning out the brassiness to achieve a cool, ashy shade that is universally flattering. Ashy brown chestnut hair and cool blonde in neutral shades are wearable for every texture and length. It gives just a subtle touch of smoky sexiness that is great for all of types of weather. This look can require frequent maintenance, though it is relatively easy to achieve. Smoky hair would be great for a transition away from damaged hair (which we desperately need, tbh).
Remember all that stuff we were just saying about natural hair and avoiding hair damage? Yeah, that doesn’t apply here. Platinum hair has been seen on celebrities like Rita Ora, Kylie Jenner, and Michelle Williams. This shade is striking, glamorous and retro but it takes a serious amount of commitment and risk to rock this bold hue. We love the idea of full platinum or platinum tips to perfectly complement our Coachella outfits.
Once again, jewel tones and metallic hair is still in demand. Instead of the usual all-over color, we are seeing some great inspiration by incorporating blonde and black to create grunge and depth. We love how grays play well with tones of pink and purple. Mixing in cool, ashy blonde with soft gray, lilac or pale pink achieves an ethereal and angelic finish. Dark, almost black roots, shades of blue and cold steel tones are eye-catching and a bit easier to pull off. Which mix of grays and pastels would you prefer?
This hair trend highlights the dimensionality of black coffee with an initial appearance of black at the roots fading into hints of red, dark brown and mahogany at the tips. This trend is perfect for natural brunettes or those of us with black hair looking to add a subtle hint of summer to our usual look.
Chocolate Covered Strawberry
Another trend for those seeking some brunette beauty is a blend of rose gold, auburn and brown. This trend is super versatile and we can really play around with it to make it our own. Adding rose gold to the tips of natural auburn hair gives an overall rosy glow. Washing auburn hair in a subtle rinse of burnt caramel achieves a duo-tone of red and brown.
The last trend that we’d love to rock for the warmer months of 2017 is an overall wash of warm honey to any shade of hair. A new-ish trend stylists are raving about called color melting features a smooth ombre of color from dark to light with honeyed tones at the tips. We especially love the chocolate/cinnamon/caramel shades that are sexy, sweet and so Victoria’s Secret model.
It’s odd that talking about hair has made us hungry, but so many hair trends feature delicious, decadent colors that we want to gobble up! We honestly can’t pick a favorite among these six trends but one thing we do know: our hair stylist is going to be getting a call from us very soon. Which trend is your favorite, or which do you predict will be the most popular? Let us know in the comment section below!
