It was a ritual every Wednesday night over a glass of pinot grigio, you turned on your TV, sat back, and lived life through Carrie Bradshaw eyes. Comparing your best…
Entertainment Weekly nabbed the exclusive first trailer for The Tick, one of our two favorite Prime pilots from last season (the other was The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel which we gushed about here). The series looks to be as irreverent and strange as the premiere episode promised. Take a look and then we’ll break it all down after the jump.
Okay, so what the hell did you just watch?
Fear not, citizen, we’re here to explain all the absurdity witnessed and bring you up to speed on this hilarious new offering from the online retail behemoth. The Tick is the latest adaptation of a parody comic book series, having previously existed as a live-action show and a cartoon series in the 90’s, that was ordered by Amazon last year after its pilot episode’s stellar premier. Prime subscribers can still watch the pilot here.
The titular hero is portrayed by British actor and comedian Peter Serafinowicz (John Wick: Chapter 2), who infuses the sometimes delusional larger-than-life character with an unwavering sense of purpose. This is a perfect juxtaposition to actor Griffin Newman’s portrayal of The Tick’s sidekick Arthur, a powerless accountant with a powerful moth suit. The pilot saw the reluctant Arthur partner up with the overzealous Tick to battle The Terror (Preacher’s Jackie Earle Haley), a supervillain with a personal connection to Arthur’s childhood.
Until Amazon coughs up more Mrs. Maisel episodes for us to obsess over, we’re happy to dive into the wacky adventures of this big, blue lovable lunatic and his adorably nerdy sidekick in training. Here’s the official description from Amazon Studios: “From creator Ben Edlund comes the hero you’ve been waiting for. In a world where heroes and villains have existed for decades, a mild-mannered accountant named Arthur has his life turned upside down when he runs into a mysterious blue superhero, The Tick, who insists that Arthur becomes the brains to his brawn in a crime-fighting duo. Will Arthur resist the call of Destiny or join the fight?” The Tick begins streaming Friday, August 25th for Prime subscribers.
