We’re less than one week away from the premiere of The Defenders on Netflix, an event that’s been in the making since the streaming service launched its first Marvel Studios series Daredevil in 2015. The series will unite Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Danny Rand (Iron Fist) as a street-level superhero team when they’re tasked with saving New York City.
In the new trailer, which is part recycled footage, fans are treated to an extended scene in the Royal Dragon Chinese Restaurant, where the team chows down and then comes face-to-face with a mysterious figure warning them of the coming battle. There’s also footage of the team battling ninjas, fighting in an underground tunnel and the return of Elodie Yung’s Elektra. While it’s still unclear if the team functions as a successful group or will struggle with dysfunction throughout the 8-episode series, actor Charlie Cox teased the group’s challenging dynamics.
“These are four people with equally strong opinions who are forced together against their will to work together,” Charlie Cox (Daredevil) told the Independent. “Whether one person emerges as a leader from that group is yet to be seen. It’s more interesting that it is an ensemble, and it is about each of them recognizing what the others bring to the table and the group.”
Arriving August 18 on Netflix, the 8-episode Defenders miniseries stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, Finn Jones as Danny Rand, Elodie Yung as Elektra Natchios, Sigourney Weaver as Alexandra, Eka Darville as Malcolm Ducasse, Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth, Scott Glenn as Stick, Rachael Taylor as Trish Walker, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple and Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing.
