If you happen to reside on Planet Earth, then you may have felt that recent earthquake. No, it wasn’t “the big one” that scientists predict will render California an island – it was just Queen Rih dropping her makeup line. Rihanna is obviously a huge fashion and beauty icon, so it’s no surprise that after her previous fashion collabs with Puma, she extended her interest to make up.
Her brand, Fenty Beauty, can be found at Sephora online and in stores – though we aren’t sure where else you can purchase the collection. Rih casually dropped 40 foundations, highlighters, highlight and contour sticks, oh and only the most blinding yellow gold highlighting powder we’ve ever seen! Did we mention everything is cruelty-free? In an effort to be a responsible adult, we’ve come up with a semi-condensed list of the must-have items from Fenty Beauty.
Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation, available at Sephora, $34.00
Foundation is one of those products that brands get wrong … a lot. Beyond that, foundation performance is highly dependent on needs and skin type. Trying to make one product to please everyone is usually a huge fail, but Rihanna somehow managed to create something that most women can love. She created a long-wearing liquid foundation that has medium but buildable coverage with a healthy, dewy finish that mimics Rihanna’s own natural glow. The long wearing aspect is important because this means even those of us with oily and combination skin can rock this product, with minor T-zone touch-ups, as opposed to the product melting off of our faces like warm butter. The foundation range is goals, with a variety of tones and undertones to suit all women. If you are someone that wears BB creams, try sheering this out with your moisturizer. This is our #1 recommendation from Fenty Beauty.
Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer, available at Sephora, $18.00
It may seem a little odd that gloss is #2 on our list, but like foundation, it is an all-inclusive product that most women wear. It features a soft, warm rosy tone that is slippery – but not oozy – and results in the perfect diamond shine. And for only $18, it’s one of the more affordable products in her line. If you’re looking for something to gift to someone, this would be it!
Invisimatte Blotting Powder, available at Sephora, $32.00
Remember how we were talking about the dewy finish foundation? This product makes wearing a dewy finish doable for those of us with combo and oily skin types. This powder is solid but velvety to the touch and has a pearl-like tone that literally looks good on everyone – none of that embarrassing white cast that appears out of nowhere in flash photos. If you need a lightweight powder for the under eye area, or actually use a powder to blot, stop what you’re doing and order this now.
Cheek-Hugging Highlight Brush 120, available at Sephora, $32.00
Creating beauty products is hard, but creating quality brushes and tools goes above and beyond the call of duty. Most people have tools that they go-to, such as a beauty blender for example. Rihanna did create a sponge, but with so many beauty sponges out there on the market, we aren’t sure it’s a must have. This cheek hugging brush on the other hand definitely is. This brush is curved, almost like a woman’s body, and is perfect for moving around the contours of the face. Not only purposeful, it is beautiful with a fleshy blush pink barrel and matching bristles. If you aren’t so much into her makeup, the brush is at least a product you will most likely use.
Rihanna also released a selection of contour, concealer, and highlight sticks as well as powders that look bomb. If you’re a makeup collector and like to have products on display, you’re probably going to end up wanting to buy everything. And you know what? We fully support that decision! If, however, you’ve got bills to pay like us, the four items above our are must-haves from Fenty Beauty. We can’t wait to see what else she adds to her line!
