We have at least one wedding invitation in our mailbox, and we’re sure it’s only the first of many we’ll receive in the coming months. It’s official, event season is…
As the women of 2017 break barriers and become the #Sheroes of the world, we would love to give highlight to Ibtihaj Muhammad. Not for only becoming the first Olympic Muslim American fencer, to wear a hijab at the Olympics, but to be the first Muslim Barbie Doll, of 58 years, of History. Barbie was the epitome of beauty during the 50’s, with her slim physique, long blond hair and blue eyes. Having a strong impact on the way the world identified beauty for years.
Ibtihaj wanted to work closely with Mattel, the founders of Barbie, to assure the appearance of this doll embodied who she was as an athlete and a Muslim woman. As stated in Ibtihaj Muhammad’s interview with, People Magazine, “I know that as an athlete I have larger legs — these strong legs that we use, especially fencers, to propel ourselves into lunges — and it was important for me to have my doll be as close to my likeness as possible. So I wanted to have athletic toned legs for sure.“ Influencing the shape structure of muscular women, who are strong, athletic and determined to concur.
” I’m also really big into eyeliner. I like to think of my eyeliner as a shield of power; I not only wear it to the grocery store, but I also wear it to compete. I wore it to the Olympic games, so I wanted my Barbie to have the perfect winged liner and also to wear a hijab.” With this statement alone, Muhammad will change the way we value those precious 30 minutes we take every morning, in the mirror, to perfect our eyeliner. In hopes that those minutes worth of #struggle, pay off to be our “Shield of Power” towards concurring the day.
Thank you @Mattel for announcing me as the newest member of the @Barbie #Shero family! I’m proud to know that little girls everywhere can now play with a Barbie who chooses to wear hijab! This is a childhood dream come true 😭💘 #shero pic.twitter.com/py7nbtb2KD

As Muhammad takes the crown reforming the way Muslim women and hijabs will be viewed in our days to come, there were also other powerful women in this #sheroes collection that made their empowered impact. Gabby Douglas, being the first African-American Gymnast, in the Olympics history to become the individual all-around champion, need I say more! Another Badass babe is Ashley Graham, who is reconstructing the way models should be characterized, loving her curves and inspiring other curvy women to embrace who they are and the list doesn’t stop there. As we continue to break barriers and show the men of the world who’s boss, let us remember and sing a little Beyonce along the way” Who Runs The World… GIRLS!”
