We have at least one wedding invitation in our mailbox, and we’re sure it’s only the first of many we’ll receive in the coming months. It’s official, event season is…
It’s the year of the women better yet the year of the V. With so much moral support from different organizations such as Times Up, 50/50 by 2020 and #METOO alongside Oprah’s empowering speech at the 2018 Golden Globes, television shows such as Blackish, and many women running to be in office, you damn right women should be FEARLESS. No longer are the days where we feel the need to fold to get ahead or be understood, or better yet care to try to be understood. Times up to the days where women felt apologetic for simply being who they are or feeling as if they couldn’t have a voice whether it’s in your home, at work or at social events. Thanks to social media, we’ve become more aware of empowered women all over the world. Women have become major influencers to those who are in the search for a voice, truth, and meaning on a daily basis. Surrounding yourself with amazing women, powerful inspirational voices and love, we found 40 Instagram accounts of fem inspiration and powerful women that inspire Fabsta on a daily basis. So during that morning scroll before you get out of bed, let the movement, voice, and inspiration from these women be your morning power rush.
It has been such a blessing to witness my soul sister @elainewelteroth make her dream of the @teenvogue summit into a reality. Elaine, your vision and passion for creating safe spaces for folks who care to organize and take action leaves me endlessly inspired. I love you. Also, I want to give a special shout out to everyone who spent their afternoon with me in my mentor session. Thank you for sharing your ideas, your fears, your questions, your time, and your hearts with me. You are all amazing. Thank you also to my boo @rupikaur_ & @stbeautyband for allowing me the opportunity to interview you and share your inspiring process with our wonderful audience. Also @msmelina i added a photo of us in the swipe just bc your drop is unparalleled lol
I’m gonna post this in the middle of the night so I can be sure the engagement is low because of that and not the fact that I am posting yet another photo of myself shirtless in a baseball cap. Well, here it is! I’m out of outfits! I’ve been contemplating what the fuck I’ve wanted to say as my “hello 2018” post but now it seems kind of late so I’ll just say that I’m inspired and grateful to be a woman living today even though at times I’ve wondered about how cool it might be to have a dick. Grateful for so much. Grateful for the legs that carried me 11 miles (in one day) into those mountains with 25 lbs. on my back only to have a panic attack on all fours screaming, hyperventilating, and crying in a portion called “crawlers ledge” (google it) while my very sweet boyfriend yelled “Get UP! Your life isn’t worth THAT much!” Grateful for Oprah and grateful for poodles. Health family and all the stuff. Couldn’t ask for more even in the worst of times. Also haven’t drank in 4 months so that’s cool and for good measure I’m gonna use the hashtag. #girlboss (now with almost 9 million uses on insta)
Last night felt like a sea change. A moment when women and men spoke up about harassment and the abuse of power in an open forum as a community that will not tolerate this behavior any more. A new community determined to create change so young people, who come after us, will not have to the feel shame or guilt that does not belong to them. I am so encouraged that we are making a new path forward. Thank you @elleusa and all of the incredibly inspiring honorees for your courage, your love and your truth. ❤️

Woke up on the first day of a New Year in Johannesburg where, not long ago, the hatred, violence, discrimination, and bigotry of apartheid was overthrown. The powerful minority wielded guns and dominion over laws, but the majority wielded a force much greater—a revolutionary spirit fueled by Dignity. Bravery. Relentless Hope. And Love. I’m still processing/unpacking the parallels between the history here and similar stories unfolding all over the world. But I keep returning to a moment when that same revolutionary spirit flooded Constitution Hill during #AfroPunk on #NYE. @TheBrotherMoves On ended their set with this and it’s still ringing in my head: “We are the majority. We are the majority. We are the majority. What will we do with our authority? What will we do with our agency?” WHAT A POWERFUL PROMPT. May we all have the courage to wake up to our own individual and collective power. And may we use it to overthrow anything that threatens to hold us back in 2018. We have so much work to do…
Now we’re in bizzness! With @bumblebizz just weeks away from launching, I couldn’t imagine a more impactful headline. I’ve been reading @fastcompany for years, learning from & admiring the many business innovators they have featured. It was always a dream of mine to be a part of something that made an impact big enough to merit acknowledgement (a digital cover!) from a publication like fastco. There are no words to describe the amount of work, grit, determination, and perseverance myself and every single person who has dedicated their passion and time to Bumble. It’s moments like this that remind us how far we’ve come. On the other hand, it is moments like the past couple of weeks that remind us how much further we have to go, not only for our users but to make a bigger dent into hateful behavior in our world and online. A huge thank you to the incredible team at FastCo, to every single person who has been a part of our amazing team and journey, to our incredible users, and to you for making it through this long winded caption. 😉 This is surreal, and we are eternally humbled, grateful, and slightly tipsy from celebrating. Stay tuned for the launch of bumblebizz in a few short weeks and for this story to go live 🐝🥂
Wrote, deleted and re wrote this like 5 times… Still not sure what exactly or how much I want to share… However it’s so important to me for the people in South Africa, a place that has tremendous meaning to me and that has given me SO SO MUCH, to know why I won’t be performing at Afro Punk this NYE. The past five months I have been quietly treating, and working through an Autonomic Disorder. It been a journey that hasn’t been easy on me… Sometimes I feel cool, and other times not so cool at all. It’s a complicated diagnoses , and I’m still learning so much myself, but right now, my doctors are not clearing me for such an extended lengthy flight, and doing a rigorous show right after. I can’t put into words how saddened and sorry I am that I am unable to perform for you guys this NYE, there is simply no other place I wanted to be than there with my family to bring in 2018 with you…….but I give you my ABSOLUTE WORD I will come back with AfroPunk and deliver this performance…..as it is so extremely important to me to connect with the people who have so closely inspired me in so many ways. I can’t thank Afro Punk enough for their support, and to all of the other festivals this past summer/fall who have known about my health, kept it confidential, and gone out of their way to make me feel supported while doing these shows. As a part of the self care that I’ve tried to encourage this past year, it needs to start with myself, and I’m looking forward to doing a better job of this 2018. This past year has been one of the most fulfilling of my life… Performing this record and experiencing the energy exchange with you guys has been astounding, and I’m so excited about continuing to do the work I feel so absolutely humbled and appreciative to be doing next year. It gives me life.
Getting to-and through-college isn’t easy, and I want the amazing DC students I met today to know that I am so proud of you for beating the odds and getting the education you need and deserve. I want you to always remember that your hard work and determination got you to college, and you deserve to be there. Don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise. Just keep going to class, working hard, and asking for help when you need it. Never stop reaching higher, and never give up! #BetterMakeRoom
What’s your favorite food? Mine is pizza. So, If someone came up to me and said “Pizza is gross. I don’t like how it’s blah blah blah” It would be hard to contain my shock because pizza is AMAZING but ultimately we would both just arrive at “to each their own.” Because another’s dislike for pizza wouldn’t change my love for it. Funnily enough, I do not apply that same logic with myself. When criticized I take it to heart. I question myself. I temporarily abandon myself. Why is that? I guess what I’m saying is, I want to love myself unconditionally. I want to feel peace knowing I’m not for everyone. I want to love myself how I love pizza. Am I wise or what? 🍕 oh, and Happy Halloween.
proud of my sis @janellemonae . one afternoon soon after we met, we sat talking about how we both wanted to tell stories that changed the narrative around what We could be. we wanted to see more of Us in the future. We geeked at the idea of working in genres like science fiction. & Oh! to get to be fictional characters that become a part of film iconography! but most of all – we craved to be captured as folks as dimensional as we know ourselves to be. elated to get to watch you do all these things, and more. Yes. Photo by the dreamboat: @ajanaomi_king
Had the privilege of speaking on a panel for the Ending Incarceration for Girls in NYC task force held by the Vera Institute. It’s so abundantly clear that we have everything we need to not only make zero incarceration a reality but to do it soon and do it well. #BlackGirlsMatter #GirlsforGenderEquity #zeroincarceration #weallwegot
Oh what a night! To witness the sea of solidarity tonight filled my heart with joy. We are going to help women everywhere and across all industries to have a safer and more fair work environment. And of course I had to quote my dear friend Lin Manuel Miranda and our favorite play, “this is not a moment, it’s a movement!” #TIMESUP #WhyWeWearBlack
🎄🎅🏼🐶❤️ Yesterday I had the most amazing day! As the Creative Strategist for @wag- the #1 dog walking all in the country!- I wanted to do something for all the dogs who are in shelters right now waiting for their forever family to find them. So we created a sweepstakes with the help of @greatergoodorg to raise money that would buy toys for shelter dogs. @amyjdowds from Alaska won the sweepstakes and came to LA yesterday to play Santa with me at the @spcala In Long Beach. Swipe through to see some of the moments from yesterday and all of the amazing puppies! If you’re thinking of adding a pet to your family, please strongly consider rescuing. Any animal that you can think of- even if it’s a purebread like the Pomeranian Amy is holding in this pic- you can find it at a rescue. #adoptdontshop
#TimesUp #WhyWeWearBlack This year marked the 25th anniversary of my rape. #MeToo I know I am not alone. Together we can eradicate sexual violence, harassment and abuse. Together we can have true equality. Together we can dismantle white supremacy and racism. Together we can center the voices of the most marginalized among us. Together we can acknowledge the jig is up and its BEEN time for monumental sweeping change. #TimesUpNow
